Fastes de Cour et Ceremonies Royales
I...I...I can hardly formulate a thought.  I got my book of the exhibition currently at Versailles.

Okay okay, I cave - dibs on the red satin francaise (painting, not extant garment) worn by the Grand Duchess of Russia whose name I've forgotten!

Maybe we need a Fastes de Cour meetup? (JOKE!)

Aieeeeee! THAT WAS MY SECOND CHOICE.

And no joking!!! If such a beautiful thing as a Fastes de Cour meeting were to happen, then who are we stop it? We must simply bend gracefully and allow what fate has intended to happen...without protest or lamentation...forever holding our peace...

I was at the exhibition a little over 2 weeks ago. The gowns were beautiful, but I wish there had been more of them. It was almost all men's clothes.

Speaking of, there was this suit that NO ONE would EVER believe was period. It was black (velvet, I think) which had no decoration except for huge rhinestone buttons down the front and on the cuffs with rhinestone chains coming from each one. Just because someone wore something a long time ago, it doesn't mean that person had good taste!

Ok - I'm going next wednesday by myself! Your post was the impetus. The site says the crowds are smaller mid-week. I keep waiting for someone to go with, but damn if I'm gonna miss this chance. I hope the catalog includes all the exhibit items. My catalog from the Galeria crinolines exhibit only had a sampling of the items displayed. Maybe I can be sneaky with my iphone again...
